Welcome
Fostering is not about us. It never was and never will be. Foster care is about serving, loving on others, and being the one constant in a child’s life when they are going through a really hard time.”

This research project aims to delve into the challenges that California foster youth face in accessing resources and transitioning out of care. Despite various support systems in place, many foster youth struggle to find the assistance they need during this critical period. Our exploration seeks to uncover the underlying reasons for these difficulties and to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current landscape.
To achieve this, we will conduct a thorough examination of the existing resources available to foster youth. This includes evaluating the effectiveness of these resources and identifying any gaps or inefficiencies. Additionally, we will closely analyze the experiences and perspectives of key stakeholders, including foster youth, caregivers, social workers, and policy makers. By understanding their experiences and the level of education and training they have received regarding the transition process, we can pinpoint areas for improvement.
Our research methodology involves both quantitative and qualitative approaches. We will analyze existing data to identify trends and patterns, and we will also collect oral histories from those directly involved in the foster care system. These personal narratives will provide invaluable insights into the real-world challenges and successes of transitioning out of care.
Through this comprehensive approach, we aim to provide actionable recommendations to improve the support systems for California foster youth, ensuring they have the resources and guidance they need for a successful transition to adulthood.
